The Bureau’s Executive Officer plays a critical role in protecting consumers and educating those who work in the industry. Kristy Underwood currently fills this position and has served in this capacity since 2005. Her dedication to the Department of Consumer Affairs goes as far back as 1994, when she first worked as a Seasonal Clerk. Since then, she’s climbed up the public service ladder, obtaining permanent status and ultimately the highest ranking position within the Bureau.

As a single mom, Kristy admits that working a demanding career, such as Executive Officer, can at times be very difficult. She states that it is her, “commitment to protecting consumers and her love for the industry” that makes her job worthwhile.
Looking towards the future, Kristy goes on to say that the Bureau is in the process of “increasing access and transparency by reaching out to the Bureau’s diverse licensee population, as well as to the consumers of the industry.”
In addition to translating several of the Bureau’s consumer and industry publications into different languages, there are also plans to conduct several “town hall” workshops, scheduled for the spring of 2009, to educate the industry on how to clean and disinfect pedicure spas.
Successfully rising through the ranks, Kristy’s story is truly an inspiration to all.
