Texas Cosmetology Law requires all cosmetology licensees to complete required continuing education (CE) to renew their license.
On January 25, 2012, the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation adopted amendments to the cosmetology rules. Those amendments included a change in the number of required CE hours to renew a cosmetology license.
If your license expiration date is before September 1, 2012, you need to complete six (6) continuing education hours.

Don Dudley, director of TDLR’s Education and Examination Division, states, “If your license is about to expire and you haven’t completed the continuing education requirements, go ahead and submit your license renewal application. You can complete your TDLR-approved CE courses as we process your application.”
Unsure of the number of continuing education hours you have completed?
Licensees can check their hours on TDLR's web site. It is the responsibility of the continuing education provider to report the hours to TDLR and if your hours have not been reported, you should contact the provider first. If the reporting issue is not resolved, you have the option of filing a complaint with the department. TDLR’s web site: www.license.state.tx.us/cosmet/cosmetce.htm
