June Papenfuse Bauer, 82, born in Canada, moved to Portland in 1946 where she attended Portland Beauty Academy. It was there she met Oscar Bauer and they married and had four children. June and Oscar went on to own and operate Mr. Oscar Hair Stylist, a mainstay in the beauty business in Portland, Oregon for over 50 years.
The couple owned a succession of three salons in the Gateway Shopping Center, each one larger than the previous. Oscar was the driving force behind the successes and was in charge of advertising, continuing education and generally promoting the salon. June taught color classes and promoted chemical services. The salon is still known for its expertise in hair coloring.
Oscar passed away in 1983 and June continued to operate the family business. She is survived by one daughter, three sons, nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mr. Oscars is in its 55th year of operation being run by a third generation of Bauers.
